Indonesian red clay tiles get their colour entirely from natural iron oxide present in the clay itself. No artificial paints or pigments are added. The colour runs through the full body of the tile during the firing process, though glazed variants are also available with an added protective coating for better moisture resistance.

The colour in Indonesian red clay tiles is baked into the clay body and does not fade from sunlight or rain. However, in humid and high-rainfall regions, moss, algae, and dust accumulation can make tiles appear duller or discoloured over time. Glazed variants resist this better as their protective surface repels water and prevents dirt from settling.

Indonesian red clay tiles perform well in India's tropical and high-rainfall regions. They absorb less heat than metal roofing, allow good rain runoff on pitched roofs, and complement traditional Indian architecture. In high-humidity areas, choosing glazed or vitrified variants and applying a weather-resistant sealant after installation helps prevent moss growth and water seepage.

Indonesian red clay tiles have a proven lifespan of 50 to 100 years under normal conditions. Their natural clay composition makes them resistant to fire, UV exposure, and pest damage throughout their lifetime. However, they are fragile under direct impact or improper foot pressure during maintenance, so professional handling is always recommended.

Clay naturally absorbs and releases heat slowly, keeping interiors cooler during hot weather and reducing reliance on air conditioning. The porous structure also allows moisture regulation, which helps maintain a more comfortable indoor temperature. This passive thermal performance makes them a practical choice for homes in warm and tropical climate regions.
