Shingles work well on sloped roofs in most climates. They shed heavy rainfall effectively and are lightweight, placing less stress on the roof structure. For hot and high-UV regions, choose shingles with solar-reflective granules to reduce heat absorption. They are not suitable for flat roofs where water can pool.

Shingles are water-resistant, not fully waterproof on their own.
